  1. I am so glad that Rolle, Banjo, and White are on the PS. I was kind of rooting for these guys to make a 53 man roster, for their sakes but am pump that they are back for the Team’s sake.

    1. I think a lot of us fans are shocked that Goodson made the 53 while Rolle was stashed. I guess the Packers figured that Goodson’s untapped potential would make him an attractive steal for another team if cut, while Rolle may be perceived as a guy who has worked hard to get where he is an may have reached his peak. Goodson showed little to nothing in terms of production, while Rolle did produce. I’m guessing DB coach Joe Whitt Jr. is betting he can make Goodson into another Sam Shields.

      1. Jamal Rolle will be signed to PS, after they clear Goodson from concussion and release him… It says in the article… So, someone will go from PS to active roster. In this constellation Jamal should be 11th man on PS what is not possible…

  2. That DL corps makes me nervous. A high motor, attacking DE/DT in Daniels, but after that, an unproven DE in Datone Jones, and two NT types in Guion and Pennel- Guion having never played true nose and Pennel, while showing great potential, still unproven. 2 DEs and 2 NTs seems severely thin. I’m thinking we really might see more 4 down linemen sets with potential for Julius Peppers and Nick Perry taking some snaps at DE and perhaps seeing Neal get some time occasionally or as the season wears on as an inside pass rusher from a 3 or 4 point stance as well. I also figure we’ll find out soon enough if Pennel and Guion can play as DEs as well.

    1. I think that’s GOT to be the answer Oppy. The draft misses on the defensive front 7 (esp at NT/ILB) are very worrying. I don’t think GB will be able to stop the run this year if Peppers, Neal and Perry can’t effectively play the DE role in a 43 more than just occasionally.

    2. I would be surprised if the Packers play more than 15-20 plays in base. In the nickel, dime, jet, psycho, etc., packages the Packers only use two DLs at most, and Neal and/or Peppers will likely put a hand down. The numbers on the DL are thin because they SHOULD be. The Packers will be fine up front.

      1. Daniels is the only listed defensive lineman on the the roster who has proven to be a high-level competitor at his position. I have hopes that Datone Jones turns the corner in year two; but DL usually take 3 years to develop into competent starting quality players and Datone hasn’t shown us a whole lot to date. Guion is new to the NT position, Pennel is completely raw. Boyd has flashed on rare occasion but he’s still somewhat an unknown commodity in terms of effectiveness on a down to down basis.

My concern isn’t that the numbers on the DL are thin; it’s that the number of players in our DL corps who have shown signs of being anything more than a mediocre competitor is thin. Again, I HOPE guys like Jones, Boyd, Pennel, and Guion turn out and show up. Having to hope that 4 of 5 guys in a room are up to the task? Well, as I stated, that makes me nervous.

  3. I think that we have a very strong roster with the exceptions of NT and ILB. Oppy is correct, we are going to find out on Thursday evening if we can stop the run up the middle. Whoever plays NT is a question mark at this point. And we know what we have with Hawk and B. Jones. Other than that I think we’re looking good and ready to go. Glad that Banjo and Rolle made it to the PS. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since ’61

    1. I don’t have a serious issue with Hawk and Jones at ILB.

AJ Hawk quietly does exactly what he is asked to do, and while the media and fans tend to lambast him for not making splash plays, that’s not his role, and players and coaches across the NFL quietly admire the work he puts in. Brad Jones actually plays his position fairly well, too. Jones certainly isn’t an all pro, and his position could be upgraded, but I may be the only Packers fan who doesn’t view ILB as a weakness. It can be better, but i don’t view it as a chink in the armor by any means.

      1. Oppy – thank you for your feedback. Based on 2013 performance I think that ILB is a concern. However, I think that the difference this year will be the various packages which the defense will employ including moving Peppers, Neal and CM3 around. I also hope that we use Barrington and Lattimore as part of the ILB rotation. If Capers schemes and rotations are effectively employed it may not matter who the starters are as we rotate on nearly every down. But if our NT can’t eat up some blockers then we will have problems at ILB. We’ll find out soon enough. Go Pack! Thanks, Since ’61

        1. I agree, NT is the foundation everything in the 3-4 builds off of. For what it’s worth, while I’m not sure what we will get out of Guion or Pennel against starters in regular season action, I’ve got a good idea what we had in Raji, and I am happy to see new blood introduced to the NT position.
Hoping for the best… Pennel looks like a straight-up mauler, in the best possible sense.

        2. Since ’61 has to be the politest poster I’ve ever seen. There still can be civility in todays world.
I’m still a little confused about the Rolle situation. Once he’s brought back, does he go on the 53 when they cut Goodson? Are the Packers then going to put Goodson on the PS or perhaps both Rolle and Goodson? And if both on the PS, who do they cut from that squad? Or are they going to cut ties with Goodson outright. If neither Rolle or Goodson on the 53 then who? And who shot J.R.?
As far as the thin d-line, Wilde has been hinting about a significant change in the Packers defensive scheme. Perhaps the first ever look at no d-lineman, four LB’s and seven secondary guys. The quarter package. No need to worry about the depth on the d-line. (this was meant to be facetious).

          1. Mojo – appreciate your comments. I believe that it is better and easier over the long term to be respectful and courteous. Plus e-communications can be easily misunderstood, so better to be clear that nothing personal is intended in my posts. As for Rolle, I guess we’ll see how that plays out sometime later today. I’m hoping for Banjo to the 53 and Rolle to the PS with Goodson released. But who knows, anything is possible. Maybe the Packers are waiting for a resolution with another player from another team. Time to focus on Seattle. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since ’61

          2. With Daniels being as active as he is, and the fact we have multiple LB’s who have DL experience in Peppers, Neal, and Perry, we may see the 1-5-5 (Psycho) used more frequently than we have in years. It would give our D a good match up for intermediate distances on early downs- should have all the strength and leverage needed to duke it out with the OL while keeping the speed to run around them, as well as the extra DB to keep the lid clamped down and keep the WRs from blowing the top off.

  4. I did not see Rolle above, nor on jsonline. Am I missing something? I know CB is a deep position, but dude balled out for a month. IMO He deserved to be on the 53 at the very least. To not see him on the PS is extremely surprising.

    1. ’61, read the very bottom of the article. Apparently he will be added to the PS tommorrow [yay!], and Goodson will be let go.

  5. Really great looking practice squad. Super pumped to see Hubbard on the list. I see him as having a huge upside as his mind and body mature.

  6. From the article:

CB Jamal Rolle – Was told he will join practice squad tomorrow, and you
can expect Goodson to be waived. Packers are waiting for his concussion
to be cleared up – can’t waive a player if he is injured.

  7. From what I can gather, GB could not cut Goodson and sign him to the PS because he is injured. Would have had to waive him and reach an injury settlement, which means GB could not sign Goodson to the team or to the PS for 6 weeks. So GB kept Goodson on the 53; when his concussion clears up, Goodson will be cut, go through waivers, and then will be signed to the PS. Rolle will then be signed to the 53-man roster. So, it appears that Rolle has been promised that he will be signed to the 53-man roster, not to the practice squad.

    1. No, probably Chris Banjo will be signed to 53 roster as he is very important ST player. Jamal will be signed as 10th player on the PS and Goodson will be released (waived, or something similar!). If any of the players from 53 roster go down, they will fill the team with players from PS. Ok?

      1. Very possible. Banjo works for me. TT might even bring in another player if he likes someone. If that is the case, I wonder why TT made Rolle wait to be signed rather than one of the other players? I guess I would be surprised if Goodson didn’t make the PS though. If GB wanted to cut all ties with Goodson, they could have waived him with an injury settlement and not keep Rolle waiting. IDK, it will become clear soon enough. I like Goodson and Rolle, and would like to see GB keep both under contract.

        1. You have to have both sides agreed to get injury settlement. Again, it is much cheaper for Packers just to release player that to pay sttlement money. And this is only day or two in question. Much easier procedure… Goodson does not have place to be kept! If Jamal will be signed to PS someone should be removed from PS.

  8. What will it take for the Pack to win at SEA …..

For every player to play his absolute best. Nothing else will get it done. Can it happen? Sure. Pack has everything going against it. That’s usually when such things happen. The players get to prove the pundits (including me) wrong. It’s a powerful elixir. The keys would be big hits, plus TOs, big plays. It would be a hell of a way to kick off the season. Can’t wait!

  9. TT just needs to trade 1st round picks for more 4,5,6 round picks, He seems to do better at in the later rounds..
