Some of these picks should make you smile, some should make you cringe. Based on comments by someone with 40+ years of NFL scouting experience, here are some guys that should make you jump for joy if your team drafts them and others that might cause you to lock yourself in your room for a few months. Again, the comments are not mine… Here goes:

  1. I’d love to see a Shazier/Buchanon/ASF trifecta in rounds 1/2. Of course this would involve moving a pick or two to get back in the action in the 2nd….

  2. been following drafts for a long time and don’t ever remember less consensus about a first round than 2014. You can find GB mocked to taking over a dozen guys in supposedly the most accurate/current attempts from today. I’ve given up and have no idea who will be available, I have been driving the car for Shazier but have a gut feeling that a guy from a big school who has tons of production and is 6’1″ 237 pounds that runs a sub 4.4 forty dash and vertical jumps over 40 inches, is not going to be passed up by 20 NFL gms.

    1. “have a gut feeling that a guy from a big school who has tons of production and is 6’1″ 237 pounds that runs a sub 4.4 forty dash and vertical jumps over 40 inches, is not going to be passed up by 20 NFL gms.”

      Bingo…

  3. I can’t decide on one guy in that Cringe list. WR Jarvis Landry from LSU. I watch the tape of him and he looks like a stud, huge hands, wins lots of 50/50 balls, really good after the catch, adjusts to ball in air like a seasoned pro, blocks the crap out of people for a WR, then we all saw his workout numbers and they just weren’t even average, I had a 31″ vertical in high school, Landry was at 28.5 and a 4.77 40 time, I guess what I’m saying is he really cringe worthy or just a 3rd-4th round guy? Clowney is a jerk, all you have to do is watch his interviews, he can’t even hardly say that you could trust him with 30 million dollars, he will give you just enough to keep you off his back and no more, the opposite of JJ Watt.

    1. Tm,
Maybe thinking of Boykin will help. Didn’t he have the worst 40 time of any WR. It’s about the tape not the workout.

  4. If Shazier or Dennard aren’t there at 21 my want is TT trades the pick to SF for picks 30 and 77 (SF has a lot of picks and may want to trade up for a WR like Cooks). TT takes ASJ w/ pick 30, trades 77 and 85 to get back into the second round and takes Bucannon, and then takes Jordan Matthew w/ pick 53. I start drinking tequila waiting for pick 98.

    1. Add on: Would be okay w/ Fuller at 21. He played some S earlier in his career, not sure if he could do it in NFL at 190lbs.

The someone Al is referencing also likes OLB’s Jeffcoat and Gayle.

He also said this re Brandon Linder:
“Kid has the quickest hands I ever saw-freaked out last year-did a Pat Mannelley trick-rolled down his car windows & from 15 feet away, fired 15 straight balls through the window & never had to call his insurance for windshield repair-he has experience starting at every spot on the OL, is strong as an ox & reminds me of Tim Grunhard-LOTS of nasties.”

    2. Jordan Matthews will not be there at 53, I promise you that. I love the thinking, I can’t see Matthews slipping to the 40’s let alone 53.

      1. I agree with you but I would have bet my house that Eddie Lacy and Randall Cobb wouldn’t be available either at the end of Round 2, both guys were mocked late 1st days before the draft. We have to just pray that the abundance of WR’s pushes him down and we get another absolute 2ND rnd THEFT in Jordan Matthews.

  5. I cringe at almost all 25-year-old guys. They’ve had an extra 3 years to develop and should already be in their prime (i.e. they are less likely to have high growth potential). And once they finish their rookie contract they will be 29 and looking for that one big payday. Not the profile of a guy we re-sign! Which means we will probably only get 4 years of the man. Not worth a high-to-mid pick, if you ask me (which you didn’t, but here it is anyways).

  6. Agree with just about everyone on your cringe list. A few on your smile/underrated list I don’t know about, though. I don’t claim to know much about the players, so pardon my ignorance.
Do you think Ladler has enough speed for the NFL?
Can (more importantly, will) Benjamin block well enough to be an h-back type? He’d certainly be intriguing in that role. . . .
I also like the idea of Nikita Whitlock at fullback. Before we got Lacy I thought we could use a bruising running game to keep defenses from going small to stop the pass. I’m excited that we have Lacy, but would still like a bruiser fullback type. Makes it hard to pick your personnel for the 3-WR I-formation, as well as helping make those 3rd and shorts easier conversions.

  7. Who’s there for the Packers at 21 totally depends how many QB’s get taken in the 20 picks before them. Mosley scares the hell out of me, much rather have Shazier. If those teams in need of a QB didn’t take one with their 1st pick, TT phone will be ringing off the hook for that pick. If the deal is sweet enough I totally see Ted trading back into the top of the 2nd, just like 2008 with Jordy.

  8. Really hoping on Shazier in the first. But, I was rooting for the Packers to pick Datone Jones last year and got my wish. Hmmm
