Packers DE Mike Neal
Packers DE Mike Neal has been suspended for the first four games of the season.

Packers DE Mike Neal has been suspended for the first four game of the season after violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. Neal has missed 25 games in his first two seasons with the Packers, and now will miss another four.

Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press Gazette, tweeted earlier today that the Packers have confirmed the suspension.

And now here’s the official statement from the NFL:

Here is the statement the NFL has released:

Mike Neal of the Green Bay Packers has been suspended without pay for the team’s first four games of the 2012 regular season for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.  Neal will be eligible to return to the Packers’ active roster on the day after the team’s fourth regular-season game of the 2012 season. Neal is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.

Last week, Neal mysteriously deleted his twitter account. I guess now we know why…  –  Jersey Al

  1. …fuuuuuuuuuuu……..

I guess the pressure to get healthy caught up to him.. He was already a powerful man, I have to figure this was all about trying to heal… Or this might be why he was so strong to begin with..

Damn.. Bad news.. AND the Bears picked up Marshall.. ugh.

  2. Performance enhancing? Really?? Imagine what he would have been without them. He would have been just like one of us who never played the game.
Oh wait, that was Neal too!
    Time to cut bait.

  3. Mike Neal continues to be a disappointment. Grab a D-lineman in free agency that is at the same pay scale and dump Neal. Anything is better than nothing. Neal is a bum.

  4. As has been mentioned it’s bitterly ironic that assuming he did take something to heal faster it didn’t help him last year given the lack of power he had, and will cost both him and the Packers next season…

  5. The guy is never going to be a full time player. 4 games missed and he won’t have played a down. Comes back plays two games and will be hurt again. Get rid of hime now. Anyone know the rules about releasing someone that is on suspension?

  6. We’ll likely hear the usual excuses from Neal about why this happened. There is no excuse for taking a performance enhancer. You are responsible for what goes into your body. And when you take a banned substance, it’s best to face the consequences like a man instead of trying every excuse in the book, hoping one sticks.

  7. Release the “KRACKEN”.Incredible!
Lawrence Guy…your seat at the table awaits you.
