Here are our predictions for the first round of Packers 2014 roster moves. Per NFL rules, the roster must be cut down from 90 players to 75 by 4PM EST Tuesday, August 26th. The final round of cuts for the 53-man roster will occur by 4PM EST Saturday, August 30st, so stay tuned for our final staff predictions throughout the week.

The Green Bay Packers usually get right down to business with announcing their roster cuts, rarely taking the full time allotted to them. That is once again the case here in the 2014 season, as it’s early Sunday afternoon and the first reports are trickling in. Per ESPN’s Jason Wilde, the Packers have released the following players:

Gerhart probably survives to the next cut, at least, given the injury to Tretter, if only to play center during practices. I can’t help but remember one of McGinn’s unnamed scouts labeling Gerhart a reject. It will be interesting to see what TT does with Guion, as it might give an indication how they see Guion (and how they see some others, like Pennel and Thornton). GB should have some ideas about Guion, since he started 13 and 15 games for Minnesota the last two seasons. GB already cut Harper and Rettig, neither of whom appears on any of the staff’s predictions, so there are 2 spots open, so to speak (by which I mean GB can wait to decide on Gerhart and Guion).
Oops, I believe McGinn’s unnamed scout described Lane Taylor as a reject last summer, not Gerhart. I regret the error.
