Cody Monroe got the experience that most people can only be jealous of.
The 17-year-old lifelong Green Bay Packers fan got an amazing surprise when he the Kids Wish Network awarded him with a day spent with members of the green and gold.
To say that Monroe has been through a lot is quite the understatement. The teen was born with kidney failure, has had two kidney transplants and is also on the waiting list for another. According to UpToDate.com, there are 93,000 registered patients waiting on the kidney transplant waiting list as of late 2010.
But hopefully he was able to forget about those things for a few hours as he was introduced to his favorite player and the best quarterback in the NFL — Aaron Rodgers. Once on the practice field, Monroe got to break the team huddle and he even got his own locker complete with a game jersey.
“He really felt like he was part of the team” said Cody’s mother Deborah. “All of the players went out of their way to make him feel special, like he was one of them.”
But it didn’t end there. He got one-on-one time with many players, including the leaders of the offense and defense — Rodgers and Clay Matthews. He also ate lunch with the players in the team cafeteria.
One of the best things about the whole experience was that Monroe was able to share it with his brothers.
Words cannot express how many smiles and raised eyebrows the Kids Wish Network and the Packers gave to one family over just a few short hours. Monroe knows he’s going to need another kidney soon, but living out his dream helped to temporarily cover up his daily nightmare.
