The Packers announced more roster moves on Monday

The Green Bay Packers announced more roster moves on Monday.  General Manager Ted Thompson announced that the Packers have signed five players who took part in this weekend’s rookie orientation camp.

Those signed are fullback Jonathan Amosa, linebacker Donte Savage, cornerback Brandon Walker, wide receiver Tyrone Smith and linebacker Jarvis Wilson.

The team also cut linebacker Micah Johnson and fullback Ryan Roberson.  Roberson was recently added to the team’s roster and spent a mere few days there before being let go.  Johnson was added to the team’s practice squad at the tail and of last season.

The team now has 87 of the 90 potential offseason roster spots full.  As with any personnel moves that Thompson makes, it’s anyone’s guess if and how he chooses to address those three open spots.

  1. Jonathan Amosa
    School: Washington
    Position: FB
    5-10, 230, 4.80
Bio: Washington’s starting lead fullback the past two seasons after walking onto the team in 2008.
Positive: Explosive lead blocker with average size/speed numbers for the next level. Quick out of his stance into blocks, attacks assignments and squares into defenders. Plays with terrific knee bend getting leverage on opponents, displays outstanding vision, and strong enough to turn opponents from the play. Adequate pass catcher out of the backfield.
Negative: Rarely used as part of the offensive. Has a combined three receptions during his college career and never carried the ball.
Analysis: Amosa is a high-effort prospect who gets the most from his ability and plays intense football. He possesses the playing style and substance to get consideration as a West Coast fullback.

  2. Donte Savage

    6’1, 247 pounds
    40 time: 4.80
Bench press: 20 reps at 225 pounds
    Vertical: 32.5″
    Broad Jump: 9’6″

Savage played in all 12 of the Aggies’ games in 2012, posting three sacks, seven tackles for loss, and two blocked kicks while playing defensive end. He sat out the 2011 season on a medical redshirt but in his junior year of 2010 he posted another three sacks to go along with two forced fumbles. His sophomore year of 2009 was actually his most impressive statistically, as he put up six sacks, two forced fumbles, and a blocked punt.

  3. Jarvis Wilson
    Prairie View A&M
    6-3, 236, 4.67

Wilson, 22, appeared in all 11 games as a senior in 2012 and registered 63 tackles, including eight tackles for loss, a half-sack, a forced fumble, four QB hurries and two passes defensed. As a junior in ’11, Wilson posted 59 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, seven sacks, a forced fumble, three QB hurries and two passes defensed.

  4. Tyrone Walker, WR
    5-10, 195, 4.54

Walker, 22, finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in receptions (250), receiving yards (3,565), receiving touchdowns (32) and 100-yard receiving games (16). He earned first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors in 2012 after leading the conference in receptions (90), receiving yards (1,319) and TD catches (nine).

  5. Brandon Smith

Began NFL career as an undrafted free agent in Carolina the 2011 season. Also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks that training camp. As a wide receiver in college, Smith had 10 catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns in 19 games (three starts). At his 2011 pro day, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds, had a 40-inch vertical leap and bench-pressed 225 pounds 19 times.
