Packers vs. Jets Preview – 2 Game Scenarios – 1 Major Difference

ALLGBP.com All Green Bay Packers All the Time

With the Packers – Jets game now less than 24 hours away, a game I will be fortunate enough to attend, I am trying to visualize how this game will go. So here’s a few quick thoughts on what I’m seeing…

I’m envisioning two possibilities. In both scenarios, I see the Packers defense relinquishing yards, but stiffening enough to hold the Jets to field goals. Either sixteen or twenty points for the Jets is what I envision.

The difference between my scenarios is dependent on just one thing: the Packers’ offensive line. If the Packers can find a way to keep the blitz-crazy Jets off of Aaron Rodgers, then I really believe the Packers have a good chance to win this game, despite their hospital ward status contrasted with the rested and healthy Jets.

But that will be a far from simple task. I’ve seen enough Jets games to be able to tell you this. When they bring five or six players (which they do fairly often), it seems like one player is always able to find an unfettered path to the quarterback.

The Jets do an excellent job of confusing and decoying offensive lines, and that worrys me big time. This season, we’ve seen the Packers offensive line handle a straight 4-man rush with aplomb, but struggle with blitz packages.

This one factor could very well be the major deciding factot in this game.

Packers 20, Jets 16 (If Rodgers is protected – 2 sacks or less)

Jets 20, Packers 17 (If Rodgers is smothered – 4 sacks or more)

For any Packers fans going to the game, be sure to stop by our tailgate in Lot K6. The boys of CheeseheadTV will be there, with more Packers fans in tow. A great chance to meet some die-hard fans…

  1. Clifton is playing like his old self, Colledge is underated as a pass blocker, Wells and Sitton are solid, Bulaga needs to be there. BJax is tough. Look for the quick slant to Jennings and Driver, and screens to Jackson and lee/Quarless.

  2. This is a tremendous oversimplification, of course. But does anybody think the Jets can come from behind?

The two obvious goals are slowing NYJ’s running game and handling their blitzes. And we could easily fail at both and get killed.

But what if we can score a couple TDs early? If so, I don’t think there is any way in hell the Jets come back. Sanchez is Trent Dilfer Lite. He’s no QB. Again…this ain’t easy, we could get handled, and I have to idea how it will actually play out. But come on…Sanchez isn’t bringing the Jets from behind to beat anybody.

  3. Nice stuff Al. I think for the pack to get a W today the packers rag tag D line will have to play inspired football to help slow down the run.

  4. Eagerly awaiting Jersey Al’s comments from the game today. Obviously a huge and tough win. Very concerned about the offense. But defense came up big. What a time for Matthews to get a sack! Packergeeks are calling Masthay the MVP of the game, and they may just be right.
