For Green Bay Packer fans, it’s always a good idea to take a few minutes and revisit some Packers history on video. I was in a linebacker type of mood today, so where better to look than Ray Nitschke?

Here’s a quick 5-minute profile of Ray Nitschke, with comments from Jerry Kramer.

  1. Thanks for the video of my all time hero. There was only one Ray Nitschke. A brutal football player and a gentle man. It’s fun to watch the play go on after it was obviously stopped. I particularly enjoyed him going up against Jim Brown. More often than not Nitschke walked off the field the winner.

    1. He was one of the two or three guys that wrote the book on what an NFL linebacker should be. Until LT came along and wrote an entirely new manual.

  2. Dick Butkus was the best LB’er of all time — and it isn’t even close. But Nitschke was certainly one of the all-time greats. And no one ever played the game any harder than he did. I loved the guy.
As for LT, I wonder how much of his motor was due to drugs. I’ve seen footage of bad guys on drugs who get hit with stun guns and don’t go down. It’s a fair question to ask about LT given his history…..
