The 2014 NFL Schedule is Released

The NFL released its regular season schedule today. For the Green Bay Packers, this year’s opponents will feature the usual NFC North opponents both home and away.

An interesting side note is that the Packers will face the Minnesota Vikings at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis this year.  It will mark the first time in over 30 years that the Packers will play an outdoor game in Minnesota.

The Packers will also face each team from the NFC South as well as the division-winning Philadelphia Eagles of the NFC East and Seattle Seahawks of the NFC West.

The Seahawks are also the defending Super Bowl champions.  This will mark the third straight season that the Packers will face the defending champs on the road.  They faced the New York Giants in 2012 and Baltimore Ravens in 2013.

The AFC slate this year includes all four teams from the AFC East.  The Packers will host the New England Patriots and New York Jets while they will travel to face the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

An interesting side note to make is that the Packers have faced most of the AFC East during two of their last three Super Bowl seasons.  After beating the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI in 1996, the Packers faced New England in a Monday night game in 1997 en route to their second straight Super Bowl appearance.  Green Bay also saw the Dolphins and Bills that season.

The Packers last faced the Dolphins, Bills, Jets and Patriots in 2010, their latest Super Bowl season.   The Packers suffered what would be their last loss of that championship year to New England in a Sunday night game started by backup quarterback Matt Flynn.

  1. The key is the first half of the schedule. If the Packers can go 5-3 in the first eight games, they will have an excellent chance of being NFC North champs again.

    1. Exactly…5-3 or better going into the bye and we’re on our way. I see few issues in the second half. NE maybe, but Atlanta isn’t good outdoors. Plus I think Brady has to be on the decline before long. We’ll see.

    1. oops, thought I was replying to Jersey Al’s comment. But, speaking of the BYE, it’s nice to see that our bye week is exactly half-way through the season. YES!

  2. The opener should be a great game. We’ll be healthy using all cylinders when we pound the ball down their throats. All-in-all it is an honest schedule – I like it.

    Go Packers

    1. “The opener should be a great game.”

      I don’t see how.
GB is not as good as DEN.
Looked what happened when they played SEA.

      This will be a blowout.

I just hope the defensive finger-pointing that will inevitably occur during/after that game doesn’t destroy the team altogether.

  3. 4 and 4 the first half with losses to Seattle, New York, Carolina, and New Orleans. 4 and 4 the second half with losses to Eagles, Patriots, Falcons and Bills. Looks like 8 and 8 to me. Could go one game either way. Since MM does not play to win in the preseason I predict they are all losses like last year.

    1. I agree with 8-8 but I think they’ll beat NY, Car, Bills… they’ll lose 3 division games instead.

      1. Looks like this schedule is taylor-made for another Packer Title Run.
The real question is: How far down in the basement do the Vikings and their basement-dwelling fans finish this season??? Won’t be long and another one of their “stars” will be demanding a trade to get “out of Dodge.” 😉

  4. Palmda has to be a troll. Jets at home after having 10 days to prepare? Probably the easiest win of the season = W. Panthers at home = W, Eagles at home = W, Atlanta at home = W, the Billls? Are you kidding? = W. Half the other teams you mentioned = W.

  5. Prediction: Matt Flynn tosses seven TD passes in the finale, against Detroit again, as the undefeated Packers rest players for the playoffs. After the first round, GB hosts and defeats Carolina. Then in the NFC championship game trounces SF. Rodgers shares the SB MVP with C.J. Mosley as the Packers rout the Chiefs 42 to 7.

So it has been said; so it shall be written.

  6. We can predict W/L’s all we want right now. It’ll completely change by the week of each game (which is all that matters).

That said, I’d be shocked if we beat SEA in their house defending their crown. (I was sure SF was going to get that opening game.. dangit). Plus, 3 division games (2 on the road) in 2.5 weeks = OUCH.

  7. Oh – and WHY do we have TWO Thursday games?? I thought each team was only supposed to be allowed to have ONE Thursday and ONE Monday night game? (Along with a max of 3 Sunday night games for a total of 5 Primetime Games).

    1. Bearmeat _ I’m with you, I hate Thursday games. But at least the first one, they will have plenty of time to prepare for. Unlike the mid-season game. Thanks, Since ’61

  8. There are 3 games on this schedule to be concerned about. Seattle and N.O. on the road and Carolina at home. Beyond that if the Packers are relatively healthy and Rodgers is playing we should be fine. The second half of the schedule has only one playoff contender which is NE in GB. And the NE defense is terrible, AR will cut them up. As for Philly, I am not sure they will contend in 2014 and in any case a healthy Packer team can take them in GB. I am a little concerned about playing 3 out of the 1st 4 games on the road, but again with a healthy Rodgers we should be fine and take 3 of those games with Seattle being the only possible loss. Have Cow and Palmda forgotten that Rodgers still plays for the Packers? Do they realize that Rodgers record is 55-20 during the regular season not including 2008, his first season as a starter? That an average of 11 wins per season without a strong defense. A reasonable improvement on defense should give us at least 2 more wins. A significant improvement on defense could bring another 15-1 season or better. Earth to Cow and Palmda, the Packers are really good! Yes, they have some weaknesses to address but if they stay healthy they will be really tough to beat. Look forward to the season rather than lamenting, panicking, crying and complaining before the draft. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since ’61

    1. The game @DET worries me more than the CAR game. I noted the same thing: apart from @SEA and @NO, most of the non-division away games are against weaker teams, and the tougher teams, we get them at home. That’s a benefit.

      1. Brad – The Packers are 8-4 at Detroit since the Lions moved to Ford field. If we’re healthy we can take’em. They will still be trying to figure out their new systems under their new HC. But I have no problem adding the Lions road game to the short list of questionable games. I have found that since the Favre era the Packers usually end up splitting the games that I consider questionable. We’ll have a better handle on the Pack’s chances after the draft and of course after training camp. Then week by week during the season as Bearmeat correctly points out. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since ’61

        1. Hi S61, I don’t disagree; the @DET game is certainly winnable. I would discount many of those 8 wins today since they were during the Lions’ “dark years” and they’re a much better team today. But I don’t think there’s a division game that the Packers don’t have at least a 50/50 chance of winning, and the home games are certainly better than that.

  9. Packers will be at their healthiest in the first game (obviously). That IMO gives us the best chance we could have to finally beat the SEACOCKS!!!

Please someone shut that Carrol/Sherman idiot tandem up! Go Packers!!

  10. I hope our new young starting safety is up for the challenge coming out of the gate. Seattle on the road, then 3 important divisional games. Our D needs to be on their game early .

    1. Yes, Micah Hyde will be ready. People not like it (I love it) but Hyde will be the starting S in week one opposite Burnett. This is of course, just my opinion. GoPack! And just for kicks, I’ll predict 11-5, NFC north champ.

  11. I can see four wins for sure. Maybe six. A reach for 7. They won’t beat NE, Seattle, Detroit or Chicago and one win over Vikes.
NO, Atlanta are tough so that’s 9 losses right there.
I would be shocked to see this team with all the holes to fill and not enough high draft choices to fill them with skilled playmakers, make the playoffs this year or next.
I predicted this team needs three very good drafts to be competitive again.
Free agency is killing them and this is the year that fact hits the fan.

    1. Morgan,

A healthy Rodgers, Nelson, Cobb, and Lacy will be enough to get us 8 or 9 wins. A mid range defense, with the above mentioned players 10, 11 or 12 wins easy.

  12. I see 4-4 at the bye; losses to Detro, Chico, Seatel, NewO.

I don’t worry too much about Carol.Nice to note they’re at Lambeau.

I see Pack taking NewEngl, Phila.
NewEngl won’t be easy, as they will have much improved secondary. But GB will have their run game elevated another notch (if MM would only mix up play calling).

Atla will be tough loss. They are loaded w talent before injuries last year. W/ top TE or OL picks, they will be top in their division.
Nice having this one in Lambeau…and having the weather possibly swinging Game to GB.

I see split with all division foes, as all 3 pick up talent. Chico struggles all year I suppose.

Minne solidifies QB, but its still susceptible for a few losses to give edge to GB.

Detro; tough team for GB;and that is the slugfest for the division champ.

    Final: 10-6

    GB takes division again
After that…I just can’t figure anymore out:)

  14. I keeps seeing people say “relatively healthy”. Relative to what? The past few seasons we have been decimated by injuries. I sure hope our fortunes change — drastically!
