Week 14: Green Bay Packers vs. Atlanta Falcons
Name Record To-Date This Week’s Pick Score Prediction
Kris Burke 7-5 Green Bay Packers 24-20
There is a strong argument against the Packers here, but Green Bay is going up against the one team with a worse defense than them.  Atlanta, a dome team, will struggle in the cold and Green Bay wins a game uglier than your grandmother’s Christmas sweater.
“Jersey” Al Bracco 5-7 Green Bay Packers 20-17
Having stuck with the Packers against my better judgement during this losing streak, I can’t abandon them now. Not even sure what to hang my hat on – I’ll go with lucky bounces and some frozen Falcons not wanting to be out there…
Adam Czech 9-3 Atlanta Falcons 27-24
As I write this, there’s a chance that Marshall Newhouse could start at left tack on Sunday. If that’s the case, the Packers might lose 110-4 and end up with -76 yards of offense. If whatever is wrong with Bakhtiari is cured by Sunday and Newhouse (mercifully) doesn’t play left tackle, the Packers will only lose by a field goal.
Marques Eversoll 8-4 Atlanta Falcons 27-24
I think it’ll be close, but I can’t see the Packers winning this one without Aaron Rodgers. The Falcons aren’t good, either, but they’re a little better than this beaten-up Packers team.
Thomas Hobbes 5-7 Green Bay Packers 13-10
I’m going to try to stay optimistic and assume that anyone on the team who wasn’t afraid of losing their jobs will be on their toes after last week.  Losing more games is likely to start seeing heads roll and everyone knows it.  Luckily the Falcons have had just as much of a nose-dive as the Packers this year and they don’t have the alibi of losing their starting quarterback.
Cory Jennerjohn 9-3 Green Bay Packers 20-16
I realize the Packers are 0-4-1 in their last five but if ever Green Bay needed help from the football gods, this is the perfect time. The Falcons bagged the season the moment Julio Jones went down. This is the classic “I Told You So” game for Ted Thompson. Thirty-year-old Steven Jackson was a target of the Packers in the offseason, but has been a shell of himself while battling injuries as he continues to get slower. Sound the alarm for Eddie Lacy — Atlanta is 30th in the league by allowing 126 rushing yards a game.
Jason Perone 8-4 Atlanta Falcons 24-10
I could just keep it at “until I see the Packers win a game without Aaron Rodgers (and they will be without him this week), I can’t pick them”.  Steven Jackson and Roddy White return for the Falcons and although this game is outside in the December cold, the Packers are just too down and beat up to compete, even with that advantage.
Chad Toporski 7-5 Atlanta Falcons 24-17
There won’t be many people outside of Falcons and Packers fans who are going to watch this game. It’s going to be ugly, and without Aaron Rodgers or a healthy line, Green Bay’s offense will continue to struggle mightily.

  1. I’d bet both the Kitties and the Bares lose this week. This is GB’s LAST chance to compete this year.

    And if Rodgers doesn’t play… I think they’ll manage to lose it somehow.

  2. Oh, yee of little faith. We’ll see you Monday AM so that some of you guys can apologize to the team.

  3. Adam, everyone and their brother knows that Newhouse has no right on a football field. Someone please answer me… How the hell does MM not see this??????

    1. I’m pretty sure McCarthy does know about this, but he’s out of options. In reality, Newhouse is the 4th option at left tackle after Bulaga (remember him?), Bakhtiari and Sherrod (whenever he gets healthy/back in football shape). By the time you are on your 4th option, you’re beyond “good depth” into “fate was not kind to us” sort of play.

      Simply put he doesn’t have any better options so Newhouse plays, at the moment if Bakhtiari can’t play, who else is supposed to step in? Sherrod has only been practicing football for a couple weeks after missing 2 years, there’s no physical way he’s ready.

      1. New house has not played well. But it would be worse to try it bring in a FA at this point. First, any free agent still left at this point of the season is still a free agent for a reason, and would not be in football shape. Second, while Newhouse has been bad, anyone coming in off the street wouldn’t be prepared for our line’s calls or verbiage. That’s an even bigger risk than poor play.

      2. I would think Newhouse will fair better at LT than RT. Simply put he isn’t a RT in any way, shape or form. Lets remember that the Pack was 15-1 w/ him playing LT in ’11. He’s not very good, but he’s better at LT. He’s played LT most of his career.

        1. Lets also remember he was the last ranked LT in 2011. The Packers finishing 15-1 had nothing to do with Marshall Newhouse, nothing. Depending where you look, Newhouse gave up 54 pressures in 544 snaps and was credited with 13.5 sacks allowed. This all depended on if they blamed Rodgers for holding the ball to long, or Newhouse for being Newhouse.

          1. Did I say 15-1 was due to Newhouse? Fuck No!!! Don’t put words in my mouth! I said he he’s not good, only that he is a better LT than RT. That’s ALL I said… NOTHING MORE! You seem to have a reading problem.

  4. Maybe Aaron has been healthy enough to play for awhile. They just don’t want him to get decapitated behind their rag tag O-line…

    1. My feeling was the more games the Packers lose the less likely Rodgers will see the field again this year, with the turning point being the Lions game. If the Packers had beaten the Lions, there would be a reasonable shot at the post season, in which case the front office would be willing to push Rodgers to play. After the Lions loss, what’s the benefit? Even if Rodgers comes back against the Falcons and wins out, there’s a good shot that the Packers don’t make the postseason. There is a good chance of making the injury worse, in which case it’s better to let him get fully healthy and start preparing him for 2014.

      1. It doesn’t matter what the Packers record is. When Rodgers is healthy he’ll play. Guarenteed!

  5. I believe that if the Packers can actually have a lead or at least a tie at the half they will win this game. Given the weather forecast the Falcons will be Popsicles by the second half and may mail it in if they are trailing and have nothing to play for. If the Packers can stop the run and get a lead they can win a low scoring game. I take the Pack 20-10. Thanks, Since ’61

  6. I keep getting my hopes up for some more creative play calling (I don’t know why) like screens and draws to neutralize teams teeing off on our QB and RB. I hope the defense at least tries to “sell-out” and blitz the heck out of Ryan (I know wishful thinking) so they at least go down swinging and don’t just drop 8 every second and third down and let him pick us apart.
    Probably won’t happen again and we will hear the same old story from McCarthy at the end of the game about lack of tackling, fundamentals etc.. Falcons 23-10… We can all start to prepare for the draft on Monday morning.

    1. Offense: run, run, pass sideways, punt

      defense: Missed tackle, reception, missed tackle, reception + missed tackle = score.

      All the guys TT wouldn’t trade for: Gonzalez, Jackson, Lynch, Moss etc. show up to haunt TT’s ass. Favre asked for Moss and you gave him AROD. Hope Lacty at least has a good game and asthma doesn’t act up from cold air.

      1. All those guys Thompson did trade for were pre ’10 and we still won the SB! So its not like it hurt us not having them either! Except Jackson who sucks ass in Atl and who’s career is over. And we have Lacy instead. Guess it worked out just fine for the Packers afterall.

  7. WOW, Packers have to win!!! In Green Bay!!! Packers bye at least 10!! mark my words, I don’t do this often!!Just a gut feeling!!!

  8. At the most important position on the field, the Falcons have a huge advantage. Ryan is not Tom Brady, but ,he is head and shoulders above anything we have at this point. This will probably be the deciding factor in this game….I hope not

    1. Have you been following Ryan this year? He’s freaking BRUTAL! Horrid. Throws at least 2 or 3 INT’s a game and has a 3 win season. Rodgers makes others better. Others make Ryan better than he is!

  9. LT = Newhouse
    LG = Sitton
    C = Lang
    RG = Barclay
    RT = Sherrod

    QB = Flynn

    Pity Lacy and our WRs. of course we are even weaker on the defensive side.

    ATL 24
    Pack 10

    Maybe we will get a top 10 draft pick.
