Week 2: Green Bay Packers vs. Washington Redskins
Name Record To-Date This Week’s Pick Score Prediction
Kris Burke 0-1 Green Bay Packers 21-17
It actually was tempting to pick Washington here. Whenever the Packers go up against Mike Shanahan, he seems to have his team ready. RG3 is another tough challenge for this defense and it will be telling in how this defense handles him. I say Washington leads most of the day, but Green Bay pulls it out late. Way too many people are looking past this game.
“Jersey” Al Bracco 0-1 Green Bay Packers 34-20
The Packers will get on the winning side of the ledger as they return home to Lambeau Field. Aaron Rodgers will shred the Redskins secondary and only a concerted effort to get Eddie Lacy snaps and ice the game in the 4th quarter will prevent the Packers from scoring more points.
Adam Czech 1-0 Green Bay Packers 31-23
The Packers offense keeps putting up points and the defense survives a few RG3 hot streaks, forces a few turnovers, and the Packers get back to .500.
Marques Eversoll 1-0 Green Bay Packers 34-17
I’ll say it right now: Eddie Lacy, on Sunday, will be the first Packers running back to go over 100 rushing yards in the regular season since Brandon Jackson did it on October 10, 2010 against … the Washington Redskins. Behind a big day from Lacy (100 yards, 1 TD) and an efficient (300 yards, 3 TD) afternoon from Rodgers, the Packers win this one handily.
Thomas Hobbes 0-1 Green Bay Packers 31-20
I’d say it’s 50-50 how effective RGIII is in week 2; if he plays like he did in the first half against the Eagles, then the Packers win easy.  If he plays like he did in the 2nd half, the game is probably a lot closer but the Packers still probably win.  Look for the Packers to mix up some up tempo offense to see what the Redskins have done to correct their issues.
Cory Jennerjohn 1-0 Green Bay Packers 31-17
The Redskins offense isn’t the same when Robert Griffin III cannot do what he wants as a scampering quarterback. If the Packers can get a decent lead, that takes away from Griffin’s ability to utilize his great play-action game as well. If Jermichael Finley can hold on to the ball, he will abuse these linebackers. Judging from what Philly did on the ground last week, Eddie Lacy could be in store for a huge game.
Jason Perone 1-0 Green Bay Packers 27-21
It seems way too early to be calling a game a “must win” but we have seen the stats:  teams who start the season 0-2 face insurmountable odds to reach a Super Bowl.  The Packers have the players and talent to get there and it would be a shame to waste an entire season of Aaron Rodgers in his prime.  Mr. Rodgers has himself a nice day against a shaky Washington secondary and the ground game drains the clock late.
Chad Toporski 0-1 Green Bay Packers 35-20
It’s going to be a 5-touchdown day for the Green Bay Packers as they find a better rhythm against the struggling Washington Redskins. The defense will give up some plays, but they’ll also get a couple turnovers–something they were missing last week.

  1. Arron Rogers will torch the Washington defense for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns because Eddie Lacy will gain enough rushing yards and 1 touchdown to set up Green Bay’s play action passing game. 38-16 GBP.

  2. I think James Jones has a big game this week. Throughout Jones career he’s disappeared at times only to show up big time the following week. I’d feel a whole lot better should Burnett play. Although I’ve never been a fan of Burnett’s finger pointing at team mates as if to say “It’s your fault they scored”, I saw when your as limited at the Safety position as the Packers are, Burnett becomes even more important. Mcmillan not only was lost last week, couldn’t cover, and genuinely sucked, he also missed on 5 tackles. I thought that was the one thing he DID have going for him. He was so bad as was Jennings they actually turned to Bush and as usual Bush disappointed. He was trailing Vernon Davis by at least 7 yards in the end zone. Teams are going to attack the middle of the field as long as the Packers have McMillan or Jennings in the defense. I said it all Winter, Spring, and Summer, is Kerry Rhodes a better option than McMillan and Jennings. While it’s admirable M.M. and Capers want to groom their young players and get them experience, it’s quite another when Bush comes on the field as a solution. Rhodes and Burnett would be a improvement over Burnett and anyone on the roster.

    1. Last week was the worst Packers safeties who have started for the Pack certainly since McCarthy has been head coach. I truly hope they improve this week. Expect this game to be GB to win by 7 or less- not a blow-out, until we have repaired our secondary.

  3. I think the Pack bounces back against the Redskins. I expect the run game to be a factor for GB and that should force the Redskins to give Rodgers more time which is dangerous.

One thing I’ll say about Jason’s mention of the stats not favoring 0-2 teams to make it to the Super Bowl is that it has to be taken with a grain of salt. “Most” teams that start 0-2 do so because they have very little talent. Still I agree it’s a must win from the standpoint of getting our swagger back.

    1. I agree JR, this is the game where the Packers streak of not having a 100 yard rushing game ends. Lacy will do well, at least 115 yards. Did anyone notice the Packers were 4 for 4 in Red Zone last week. This makes me feel much better about this team. Just get healthy and please don’t let Ross run out from 5 yards deep anymore! Better yet, sign Joe McKinght!

  4. Packers rebound from passel of 3 and outs last week and sustain several long, time consuming drives featuring Lacy.

RGIII, copying a page from the 49’ers game plan stays at home and using Morris much as the Packers use Lacy, keep it close by rallying in the second half.

But this time, Packers rush makes the difference and starts teeing of on a less than 100% QB.

Redskins keep it close but the Pack prevails 35-31 in a tighter game than anyone would like.

    1. This is about what I see, too. People will continue to get after Capers, but the game plan is a function of the personnel they’re facing.

  5. “Way too many people are looking past this game.”

As long as that doesn’t involve any members of the GB Packers it doesn’t matter.

    1. So True. Very important that the Packers continue to play with similar physicality and intensity to last week. If they have a let down, this could be a very frustrating game to watch.

  6. The only way Lacy makes an impact is ‘if’ our dfense doesn’t have us playing from behind all game long.Which poison is being picked this week…contain the run and edge and allow the pass or defend strong against the pass with our(ahem) pass rush extreme of Perry,Neal or whoever other than CM3.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see a replay to an extent with the Pack gasping for a play to pull it out.

  7. Nice point, especially with Finley’s toe issue. Quarless is a better blocker and the Packers should be able to run against these guys. I think Lacy runs enough early, often later. 131 yards plus another 40 in passing game.

    1. The ‘skins have a better run defense than the Packers currently have a pass defense. I do not believe Lacey gets 100 yards, but, hoping I am incorrect. Expect Pack to win by 3-7 points. Orakpo and Kerrigan are studs on ‘D’ for Washington.
Here’s hoping Finley doesn’t drop another wide-open 20+ yard pass and turn it into an interception. We need to start playing other TE’s who will be with Green Bay next year. Same ol’ same ol’ for inconsistent, overpaid Finley. At least he’s decided to shutdown his 95-IQ comments. That is the only improvement I’ve seen from last year.
Expect James Jones to have a solid game.
