  1. Very similar lists from everyone. I think Manning gets cut from LB. can’t stay healthy and didn’t do much anyway. Moses definitely gets cut. Think bush might also get cut. No one has miller making it which surprises me. I think he makes it over Boyd who they try to get away with stashing on PS. The other thought is that we may have other OL that make the team instead of van roten, who was Van Rotten all through the preseason. GoPack!

    1. I read from a few different posters that ‘Manning can’t stay healthy”.

Last year, he missed the entirety of training camp with a vicious stomach/intestinal parasite and a good portion of the season recovering from it (he lost almost THIRTY POUNDS.)

I haven’t heard anything else about Manning being injured. I could be ill-informed. But even if he did get nicked up this off season.. how does that make him a guy who can’t stay healthy? A freak parasitic illness doesn’t make you an unreliable health risk for a football team.

      1. wanted to note also, that while Manning wasn’t able to keep food down and was running to the bathroom every 5 minutes (per his camp room mate last season), he insisted on still attempting to practice and make the meetings..

  2. I will opt for keeping Walker instead of Franklin because we use our rec. more than backs, especially the way we run block.

    1. Franklin is a 4th round draft pick, identified as one of the best RB’s in the draft. TT will give him this season to get up to NFL speed. He also catches passes out of the backfield.

Walker would hardly see the field with the current roster of wr’s ahead of him.

  3. I like Marques’ roster. It makes the most sense to me in that it assumes the Packers sign McKnight. He fills multiple roles on offense and STs. This roster also allows for an eighth o-lineman. Depth along the o-line seems more important this season.

The only disagreement I have is keeping Dezman Moses over Jarrett Bush. I think Bush brings more to STs than Moses. IMO, the Mike Neal experiment makes Moses expendable and opens up the roster spot for Bush.

    1. The one thing I struggle with is depth vs. quality depth. Is it enough to just have the depth? Or is depth pointless if those players aren’t of a certain quality?

I totally agree that having 8 OL is important for depth concerns. My only question is… do the Packers really have good enough players to fill that depth with?

To me, that’s the big quandary.

    2. Bush makes the team. He is the special teams captain and hardest working player on the team. TT likes that example for the younger players. That is leadership.

I agree that Dezman Moses has not been very good this pre-season. They say he has turf toe. Depends if the coaches feel he is going to come back strong. If he makes the team then I suspect another LB (or player) is let go but not bush.

  4. Cuts will be tough on defensive side but not so much on offensive side. Truth be told, Packers have one QB, one RB, one TE, six OL and 4 WR worth keeping. That’s only 13 guys! With four starters on IR, Pack is woefully thin on depth on o. On defense I can make a case for keeping 29 different guys. So, TT will be cutting way more offensive players than most are thinking. McKnight may replace Green, Ross and Franklin. Our #2 QB is on another team’s roster today. So may be an OL or two. TE we will probably have to take from what we have. Franklin is in jeopardy. Pack may take another DL in rd1 of next year’s draft but after that, it will be all offensive. W/o AROD this team is dead man walking. Lacy better have a big year too. Ditto Finley, Cobb, Jones, Jordy. Pity the Pack if they start losing OL starters to injury. And people want 18 game seasons?!

  5. I don’t see Coleman on PS. He wasn’t much better than Harrell.

They may let him go and pick up someone who is let go from another team.

Very possible the Pack is eyeing other players to pick up that are a better fit than some of the above players.

Always surprises this time of year

    1. Graham Harrel had serious physical deficiencies that will never be overcome.

BJ Coleman has the phyiscal tools; his problems are in the decision making department, and that is correctable as well as a part of the QB development curve.

BJ only has one year of NFL experience, spent on the PS. Graham Harrell was going into his fourth year. To say that Coleman after his first year wasn’t much better than Harrell going into his fourth year certainly does not mean Coleman is a lost cause.. Although he’s certainly got a long way to go if he is to become a competent NFL caliber QB.

  6. I want to thank each of the writers for taking the time to think out the reasoning for their picks. It must be hard and I can’t imagine what TT and coaches are feeling today.

I’ve enjoyed reading each of the articles.

    Thank you! 🙂

  7. If they sign McKnight to handle return duties and serve as the reserve RB, keep in mind also that he split out wide for the Jets on occasion, too. He could fill three roles for this team and conserve roster spots.

    1. I just don’t see the Packers sticking with Coleman and Rodgers. Coleman has had some moments playing with the 2’s and 3’s, and maybe has shown enough to the coaches that they feel he can be serviceable with the 1’s, but I just don’t see it.

    2. Well in our defense, I don’t think anyone one of us is was trying to account for players outside the organization, there’s just no way. It’s kind of like mock drafts predicting picks based on the order even though they know teams will be trading up and down, it’s just too many variables to account for.

      1. I fully understand and appreciate how difficult it was. Everyone (including me) thought Young as going to be #2 QB. I’m not being critical of you guys, just stating the fact everyone in world thought the same.

I just wonder why he isn’t?

    1. Lol, wags, that cracked me up!

No worries, looks like (as of right now) Quarless is still on the roster after the Packers have trimmed Williams, Stone-dog, and Mulligan.

Looks like Quarless just might be HEALTHY!!
