Packers News: Nick Perry has surgery, season over?

Just one day after head coach Mike McCarthy said the Packers may be without Clay Matthews for a couple weeks, the team appears to have lost outside linebacker Nick Perry for the rest of the season.

After the Packers selected Perry with the 28th overall pick in the 2012 draft, he entered training camp as the team’s starting left outside linebacker. Perry recorded two sacks in five games for the Packers before being injured.

Perry underwent surgery to repair his wrist, but he also injured his knee in week five at Indianapolis. The rookie outside linebacker reportedly had surgery on Tuesday.

Lance Allan, of WTMJ4 in Milwaukee, tweeted that Perry will likely wind up on the Injured Reserve.

While the Packers are now thin at the position, Erik Walden is quietly enjoying the best season of his career. Fellow outside linebacker Frank Zombo was just activated from the PUP list, and undrafted rookie Dezman Moses has made the most of limited playing time so far this season.

Moses is someone to keep an eye on. He impressed the coaching staff since the moment he arrived in Green Bay and was taking snaps with the second-team as early as June.

With the immediate future of 2011 first-round pick Derek Sherrod in doubt, the loss of Perry would mean the Packers’ last two first-round selections will have combined for very little impact in 2012.

  1. I’ve heard people say all we need is number 12 and we’ll be alright. Well we may just find out.

    1. I’m tired of that lousy excuse. When last I checked, a team wins Championships.

Quarterbacks either get all the blame or all the credit in today’s world.

  2. Perry is a pussy, shouldn’t of had surgery untill after the season was over. Tape your wrist, put a club on to protect it, and play football….what the Hell is going on around here!!, says VL.

Now Perry can go sit on the sideline with our other non-factor 1st rd pick from last year. I’m so sick of all the injuries on this team

    1. Perry is a pussy for sure, but the real problem here is strength and conditioning coach. I have never seen a team less prepared physically than the Packers. Mental deficiencies can be improved as the season goes on, physically however doesn’t improve overnight. We need Vince to come back and whoop some azz. Can you imagine the whoopin he would put on fumble fingers Finley. He would kick him in the ballsack so hard, Finley would never have to worry about reproducing any juniors that can’t catch in the future. The Packers need some tough love damnit. Coaches need to step it up a notch…

      1. Perry injured his wrist in week one, so the only healthy football he played was in the preseason, so top the criticism. Wrist injuries are really hard to diagnose. Many times the only way to know for sure is operate and look at it. And Packers conditioning coaches have nothing to do with a wrist injury.

  3. i have a lot of opinions, but i try to own it when i am wrong about something. I had no faith in walden and busted Al’s chops about it a few times, but he has played pretty well this year. I was wrong on that one. He looks like a different player this year. I still am not sure if he is the long term answer, but he has been more than serviceable this year.

  4. Lol, sorry about the harsh comment about Perry, I’m just getting extremely frustrated with this non stop injury news…somethings wrong, I guess a playing cast wasn’t an option? Remember when Ronnie Lott had his finger cut off so he could play in the next game, that was Awsome, Vince would have been proud. The way perrys injury news was reported seemed wierd, why didn’t MM just come out and clearly explan what was happening with perrys wrist? I guess MM can be vague, or maybe he was just pissed at the Perry situation like I was and wanted to call Perry a pussy, lol

I’m sorry, but that made me laugh out loud,…I know, I’m sick
