Packers Video: Injured Marshall Newhouse Blown Up by Erik Walden

Marshall Newhouse Injured?

Just a quick clip for you all of the last play from scrimmage that Marshall Newhouse played in during the Packers’ Friday night Family Night Scrimmage. Towards the end of this clip, Newhouse is seen jogging to get in position for the next play.  Turns out, he stayed out there for a few Mason Crosby field goal tries (with no rush), and about ten minutes later, was seen walking off the field with the Packers trainers.

Newhouse didn’t appear to be limping at all as he walked off, so I thought I’d go back and see if I could tell where he got injured. After watching the last few series of the first-team offense, I wasn’t able to find any evidence of Newhouse suffering an injury. I did, however, find this interesting clip, which shows Erik Walden doing what he has been highly criticized for not doing, holding the edge against the run and keeping the back inside of him.

Newhouse does not appear to hurt himself on this play, so whatever injury he did incur, he was playing with at the time. All of this makes me hopeful that his injury is not serious. With the Packers perilously thin at the tackle position, let’s hope so. We should have more details after tonight’s practice.

  1. Not a great sight to see.

It’s one of my complaints about the 2.5 second clock. I mean the idea is useless if they are timing the snap of the ball to the release.

What they should instead is focus on the snap of the ball and then having the line hold for 2.5 seconds.

So basically draw a big box for Aaron to stand in, and when the ball is snapped, prevent all defenders from touching the box for 2.5 seconds. If one foot touches any part of that box, then the line fails.

Same for the defensive side in a sense to, the objective is for the defender to touch the box in 2.5 seconds.

If it’s possible at all this season, they shouldn’t try to be tackling the QB behind the back but instead the front. Because if they get the QB from the back, he is mostly likely going to overshoot the Safety where if it’s from the front the arc will be higher allowing for some easy jumpballs.

What? You get to the QB however and wherever you can. I guess you could also say that the Packers if possible should try to not score too quickly and only score on 15 play drives in order to give the defense plenty of opportunity to rest.

      1. True you can get to the QB however you can.

That being said, it’s easier to throw the ball away when you don’t see Jared Allen coming straight at you dead to rights.

When you see them coming straight at you, your mind will most likely panic and throw a easier interception. If their coming from the back, the QB will have more confidence to throw it naturally but be able to not have it picked off.

        1. I have to agree with FireMMNow.

This is a game of inches, and a game of fractions of a second. It’s hard enough to sack the QB, to get a clean hit on the QB.. There’s world class athletes on the field protecting him. You take what you can get. It’s always a win when you get to the QB.

  2. I’m not sure I understand why the team would be so quiet about a player’s injury status during the first week of camp. It’s not like we’re 5 days from a playoff game. Give the fans some info, team!

  3. …Maybe it is a personal issue, and therefor, the team does not comment.

Has anyone actually stated that Newhouse left the game WITH INJURY? I think the only clip I’ve seen w MM addressing the situation has him stating that Newhouse left practice or was unable to finish practice, and he had no other news to report. I’m not sure, though.

  4. It was announced tonight that Newhouse has a concussion. Hopefully it’s minor and he’ll just be out a few days. If nothing else, he needs the reps.

  5. Do all the players wear the improved helmet that A Rodgers went to after his concussion? If not, the team needs to insist they do.
