News & Notes:

Top-100 prospect ranking in High School as an offensive guard. Was asked to move to center the fourth game of his freshman season and started 48 straight games there after that. Was one of the few constants on the Ohio State offense, proving to be an on-the-field leader as the “quarterback” of the offensive line.

What they’re saying about him:

Wes Bunting (National Football Post):  A strong kid with good movement skills and the production to go along with the skill set. Isn’t a dynamic athlete but has the ability to keep tackles off balance and be a solid pass rushing force.

Chad Reuter (CBS Sports):    It is obvious Brewster has the size, strength, and athleticism to start for a long time in the pivot at the next level. His ability to form a wall in pass protection and move his quick feet to create lanes inside for his running backs give him a chance to be the top interior lineman selected in the 2012 draft.

NFL.com (Combine):  A tall, flexible center who sits into his stance well, displays natural bend and creates pretty consistent leverage for someone his size. Snaps and steps quickly and does a great job in the pass game quickly getting his hands up, gains proper hand placement and is a real sticky player through contact. Is tough to disengage from because of his heavy hands and natural shuffle and slide ability through contact.

Video analysis:

Plays angles well and very adept at seal blocks.
Physical kid who plays to the whistle.
Easily gets down field, in both the run game and on screens.
Tall for a center, doesn’t always play with the best pad level.
Struggles against quick DTs and can get over-extended.

  1. Excellent center who I would love to draft. However,I wouldn’t use a first round pick for him because we have options in FA for a center ,but not for an OLB.I would move up in the second round to get him.

  2. Rather have Konz if no DE or OLB is available. If defense is available then he’d be ok in the third

  3. Guys, we’re not just looking at first round prospects here… Just anyone that might be a fit a need for the Packers that we can get highlights on. Brewster is probably a third rounder.

    1. Hard not to Al. I keep hoping that we’ll see that DE or OLB find for the 1st.

I really like the format and content of the “Draft Prospect ” write-ups. Helps those of us who don’t follow every available prospect day and night. Thanks to those of you who do. It is very informative.

    2. Is David Molk worth talking about? Even though he thinks he is (proclaiming himself the best OC in this draft class) would TT think he is?

  4. If the scouts like him that much, GB would have to be nuts not to take him in the 3rd. If they can get a starting-caliber interior lineman that late and expect to get a 4th round compensatory pick for Wells in 2013 then I would think that TT wouldn’t be too afraid to really make sure that he doesn’t overpay to retain Wells. Hell, I wouldn’t cry if they got a prospect like this, even if they did draft Konz in the 1st or Jones in the 2nd.

If everyone’s saying how this guy could be a pro-bowl OC, why isn’t he higher on the Big Board?

      1. Nevermind, I probably extrapolated it from from Chad Reuter (CBS Sports)when he said that, “His ability . . . give[s] him a chance to be the top interior lineman selected in the 2012 draft.”

At any rate, I thought he was the #1 ranked OC before last season, so he should be good value in the 3rd round.

        1. Most people have him ranked as the third or fourth best center right now, so third or fourth round is certainly possible.

By pure coincidence, next week’s Draftek.com mock draft (which i just got a sneak peek at), has the Packers taking Brewster in round four.

          1. You sly dog, you. That would be great to get Brewster in the 4th (and not take Crick in the 1st…I read your post about that). I would really like to see GB be able to resign Wells for 4.5 mil a year or so and develop a OC like Brewser for 1-3 years than have to burn a high pick on a guy like Konz. They really need help along the front 7 and should be able to get some impact players where they are drafting–especially if they don’t have to fill holes along the O-Line.

Also, isn’t TJ Land a FA next year? It would be nice to have an interior lineman who can step in and play in 2013 in case Lang walks. If nothing else, it’s good contract negotiation leverage.

  5. jersey al, are you taking requests at all for players to profile? i’d love to hear your take on brandon thompson, he’s someone i’ve been fairly high on, but i havn’t heard many opinions around draft forums (both packer and general nfl). he has some decent youtube tape floating around i believe…

  6. the pack cannot afford to draft an offensive player before the third round. the good thing is centers always fall in the draft. teams can generally get the third best center in round 4. it does not take an elite athlete.

i like brewster quite a bit. definitely more than molk. 4th round would be great, doubt he is there, but he could be a trade up into the top of the 4th possiblity.
