Weekly Green Bay Packers News from Twitter and other Sources by Al Bracco and Jayme Joers. (As heard on Cheesehead Radio 1/27/11 )
Al: Well, what can I say. After 13 long years, the Packers are back in the Super Bowl. Having survived a season racked with injuries and in jeopardy of not making the playoffs at all, the Packers found themselves winning 5 straight elimination games to propel themselves into the big game. The sweetest part, of course, was beating the Bears in their home for the NFC Championship.
Jayme: And the week that followed could easily be called controversy gate. We had Cutler-gate, Concussion-gate and Photo-gate. The Bears Jay Cutler was criticized by some former and current NFL players for supposedly tanking on his team. Bears fans vilified him, with some taking to burning his jersey. Never mind that this was a huge rush to judgement and Cutler really did have a serious injury.
Al: Yes Jayme, but I think Cutler brought this on himself. His dispassionate attitude on the sidelines would surely infuriate me if I was a Bears fan. Fortunately, I’m not and my quarterback is Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers, by the way, did a classy thing by coming out and saying he was very disappointed by the way Cutler was treated. Rodgers then mentioned the airport incident and noted that he has come to realize that you can never make everyone happy and as long as you know you’re a good person, that’s all that matters.
Jayme: And one thing that matters quite a bit to Packer Nation is the health of one Aaron Rodgers. Many in the media and even observers in the medical profession have speculated that he may have suffered a concussion from the vicious hit by Julius Peppers. Rodgers has insisted that he absolutely did not and that the new helmet he has been wearing did it’s job.
Al: And finally, we had photo-gate. When it was announced that the Packers team picture would not include the players on injured reserve, some of those players objected. Turns out it was really just a logistics and scheduling issue for the Packers, but after much media attention, Green Bay announced they would move the picture day back to the Friday before the game, when all of the players on IR will be in Dallas with the team.
Jayme: Crisis averted, Al. But seriously, it was the right thing to do. There are going to be so many distractions in the 2 weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, if you can cross one off the list, it’s best to do so. The Packers organization want this team focused on one thing only, bringing the Lombardi Trophy back home to Green Bay!
“News from the Packers Twitterverse…”
Jayme: One of our favorite tweeters, the Packer Ranter was at it again. Making note of Nick Barnett’s now famous “Super Bowl or Die” declaration, the Ranter had this to say after the win over the Bears: : “Good thing the Packers made it to the Super Bowl, or we’d all be dead.”
Al: I guess we’re pretty lucky Jayme, just like we’re lucky to have Mike Freeman as our guest later on tonight. And speaking of Mike, he just HAD to let Packer nation know in a tweet that Brian Urlacher said he hopes the Packers get pounded in the Super Bowl. The always quick on his twitter feet Aaron Nagler retorted, “Have fun watching from your couch Brian!”
Jayme: There was more twitter controversy today. Antonio Cromartie tweeted some comments about the NFL players Union. Matt Hasselbeck replied, “Somebody ask Cromartie if he knows what CBA stands for,” but then quickly deleted it. To that, Cromartie responded,”hey Matt if u have something to say be a man about it. Don’t erase it. I will smash ur face in. Hasselbeck didn’t reply, but twitter follower DirectingTitan had this to say, Nothing says “being a man” like threatening to smash someone’s face in….over the Internet.”
Al: Ouch. That hurt. And speaking of smash mouth, it would seem only fitting that our last tweet had something to do with the Packers win over the Bears last Sunday. For this tweet we can thank twitter user GreenBayBlog, who said, “This Leinenkugel tastes so, so sweet. It’s an 1888 Bock, which I do believe was the last year the Bears didn’t suck.” … That tweet was simple perfection…

I’d love to see how Lombardi would react in this world of “social insanity.” It’s time for Barnett and Finley to chuck their Iphones and worry about rehab. Especially Barnett! If he hasn’t noticed he can be replaced. Reminds me of the Lombardi/Ringo story.
This scoical network stuff is beyond me. I’m barely able to deal with the “push botton” phone. Too much yada yada yada, not enough brain engagement. That reminds me I need to rush to the Post Office and buy some stamps. Technology sucks!
