Packer News 12/10/10 – 12/16/10

AL:  Well, the big news in cheesehead nation this week is, of course, Aaron Rodgers’ condition and his availability for Sunday’s game versus the Patriots. According to Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee, Rodgers is behind the schedule set the week after his concussion against the Redskins. Rodgers was cleared to practice on Thursday that week. This time around, he won’t be able to practice until Saturday, at best.

Holly: But wait, it gets worse. it seems that as part of the recovery and evaluation process, Rodgers has not even been allowed to participate in meetings, game planning or film study. So it would be hard to see how he could be prepared to play, even if he is cleared by the medical staff on Saturday. And that’s a medical staff that is very conservative and always errs on the side of caution. Right now the odds are not very good of seeing Rodgers on the field on Sunday.

AL: If those are bad odds, what do you suppose the odds are of a Matt Flynn led Packers team beating the red-hot Patriots in New England, where they have won 26 straight regular season games? Mike McCarthy, for one, doesn’t buy that line of thinking. “We’re nobody’s underdog,” said McCarthy in Wednesday’s presser. “We have all the confidence in our abilities.” Fortunately, he stopped there. The last two guys to show any verbal disrespect to the Patriots got their heads handed to them on a platter.

Holly: Well, the Packers will be needing their heads to figure out the multiple playoff scenarios they are still a part of. The bottom line is they’re going to need help. The Packers could still win the Division, even with a loss to the Patriots, but one thing HAS to happen. The Vikings have to beat the Bears. If the Packers lose to the Patriots and the Bears win, the Bears are NFC North champs, regardless of what else happens.

AL: And there are many Wild card scenarios for the Packers, all predicated on them winning at least 2 out of their last 3 games.. There are too many possibilities to list here, but let’s look at the tiebreakers. If the Packers end up tied with the Eagles, the Pack wins the tiebreaker. If they tie with the Giants, the winner of their meeting in two weeks would own the tiebreaker. If Tampa Bay ends up tied with the Packers, they would win the tiebreaker.

Holly:  Well, that’s enough to make a non-concussed head spin, so lets get back to some less heady stuff. The Green Bay Packers are once again looking for help in shoveling out the snow from Lambeau Field. If you are interested in helping out the Packers and getting paid $8/hr, report to the Mills Fleet Farm gate on the west side of the stadium at 8 a.m. Friday. Up to 450 people are needed and the Packers will provide the shovels.

News from the Packers Twitterverse:

Holly:  When the Metrodome roof tore open this past weekend, Alex Tallitsch of  @PackersLounge: tried to explain the situation: “When the Dome “collapses” it just means it lost air. It didn’t implode into a pile.   To which the Packer Ranter replied. “It already was a pile”

Al:  Jermichael Finley taught us something on twitter this week, namely that soda is not a vegetable. Finley tweeted, “For the first week of 2011 Im going vegeterian with my family. No meat. No soda…  Well, thanks for that, Jermichael.

Holly:  Getting back to the Metrodome collapse, a twitterer called @vinny1141 chimed in a few hours after the incident.  Vinny tweeted, “ I heard Brett Favre was seen on the Metrodome roof this morning with a knife and scissors!”

Al: Clay Toporski, our trivia contest winner here on Cheesehead Radio, wasn’t buying what Jermichael Finley was selling the other night. When Finley Tweeted, “Matt Flynn will do well if his name is called,” Clay responded, “It’s the time of year for miracles right?”

Well Clay, you don’t win a shirt this time, but you do get the satisfaction of knowing that your tweet was…
